We all live with lots of regrets. The favorite reply to that from people is “never regret anything” or something along those lines, but that’s not possible. Regret can’t be stopped, yet regretting is not necessarily a bad thing.
Regret is the wish that you would have made a different choice in your past. Regret usually leads to a lot of pain and suffering. Yet, there are redeeming qualities within regret. If people didn’t have regrets, then there would be a lot more atrocities in this world.
The point to regretting is taking it as a lesson learned. Taking the good qualities from those bad choices we regret, and making sure if the opportunity to make a similar decision arises, we will make good ones.
Regret is an important part of having good feelings. Usually people that don’t have regrets are the one’s that really don’t care about how others feel regarding decisions they make.
Regret is part of life and it’s the tool that keeps us from living reckless. Attempting to get rid of regret leads to much harder suffering than simply accepting that we are not perfect and we make mistakes.
Only perfection is without regret. So if you have no regrets, then smile because you’re perfect. However, if you happen to be human and you live with regrets, then smile because you’re living life.
Regret lives in the past. Hope lives in the future. We all live somewhere in between.
