YES WE DID by Michael Davis: Straight No Chaser #91
November 7, 2008 Michael Davis 16 Comments

This is my very first official Straight No Chaser on http://michaeldavisworld.com. I must admit that I was a bit tame on Comic Mix. I was clear from article one that this was not just a comic book forum but also a popular culture forum.
Oh, yeah, I said the ComicMix articles were tame. If you were already a reader of those articles (and I hope you were) you are most likely thinking; ‘THAT was tame?’
Yes they were. They were tame because I had to think about ComicMix and what the fall out would be if I went really out there. Comicmix was (is) a popular culture site but I could FEEL the pressure to do comic book stuff a lot more than I did. Make no mistake I was never asked to write anything a certain way but the name of the site is ComicMix.
“Tame” is not to say I held back, no not at all. When I say ‘tame’ I mean that there are times when I wanted to stay on a subject a lot longer than I did. On ComicMix the longest series of articles I wrote was a month long series on Milestone Media the company I co-founded.
I also did not go as hard as I could on some subjects. An example? Well here’s two quick ones, I think that all those on the religious right who thinks they can dictate what others do are fucking morons. What makes them think that their way is THE way? Fuck them and their way.
If a violent criminal breaks into my home or in any way threatens me or my family I would not hesitate a moment in emptying an entire clip of ammo in their ass…
Then reloading…emptying another entire clip…then reloading…then getting in my car and looking for their family while reloading.
When it comes to ‘tame’ as we say in the hood, that shit is over. Consider this Michael Davis unplugged…and packing.
All that aside…WE HAVE A BLACK PRESIDENT!
It’s not a secret that I was a Hillary Clinton supporter before she pissed me off. After she pissed me off, my friend Giselle Fernandez told me some Obama campaign people wanted to meet me. They asked me where I thought would be a good spot to reach young people. I told them Comic Con International, and believe it or not they tried to make that work. After that I started to listen to what Obama was talking about and little by little I started to think that I was mistaken in my first choice. I became a big time Obama supporter. Look, to get me to write a check is like getting a Muslim to chow down on some ham. I got on board and was very happy to do so.
I was a happy little camper and I looked forward to a great debate about the issues until…the GOP started their bullshit. I’ll skip most of them and concentrate on just a few. Before I begin I want you to know I am NOT going to gloat in victory…much.
Remember Sarah Palin saying that; Obama supporters were not ‘real’ Americans? Remember the Jeremiah Wright last second commercials? Remember all the false stories about Obama? Remember Joe the Plummer? Remember the religious right organizing against Obama because he was ‘godless’? Remember the McCain rally where they called Obama a monkey? Remember the Obama was a Muslim?
Well I’m going to forgive all of that so we can come together as a country…right after this…
FUCK THE GOP AND ANYONE WHO THINKS THEY ARE BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE. The GOP is as relevant now as a pimple on my ass. Obama won by nearly 10 million votes and more than twice the electoral vote.
Can you say LAND SLIDE? I can. LAND SLIDE, LAND SLIDE,LAND SLIDE,LAND SLIDE, LAND SLIDE, LAND SLIDE, LAND SLIDE,LAND SLIDE and oh yeah…
L A N D S L I D E !
Do you think that maybe just maybe you may be WRONG, Mr. and Mrs. Right?
Or is the will of the people, NOT GOD’S WILL? I’m amazed that when you get your way it’s God’s will but when you don’t you shut the fuck up.
Well you did NOT get your way so shut the fuck up.
Look I think everyone is entitled to live ANYWAY they want but DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ASSUME TO TELL ME HOW TO LIVE.
Now look at you…you LOST big time and you have to deal with a black president. Don’t give me that shit about the economy, you lost because Bush was an idiot and your ‘real Americans’ turned out to be people who don’t think like you.
Now we can come together. Now we can be one nation. Now you can bow down to the M.O.T.U.
O.K. you don’t have bow down to the M.O.T.U. I have no right telling you what to do. However if you continue to try and tell me what to do look for me to shove my Death Ray up your ass…and FIRE!
See everybody in a few!

“Obama won by nearly 10 million votes and more than twice the electoral vote.” Yep, that’s true. But he also won Indiana (where my grandfather and daddy were run out of Indianapolis by the Klan), North Carolina, and Virginia. That’s HUGELY amazing. That’s a real change in power.
And when was the last time people were literally dancing in the streets after the vote came in? All over the country. Damn, I wish I was back in Grant Park Tuesday night.

Personally, I’m looking forward to having a President who can speak in complete sentences. He and I will disagree, but at least he’s got a brain in his head.

As cool as it is to have Barack as the Chief, Prop 8 passed. I’m a Bible-believin’ guy, but Prop 8 is stepping all over the rights of Americans, and that’s no good. Like one lady on the news saidsaid, “Chickens now have more rights in California than homosexuals do.”

I still think it would have been cool to see the future POTUS and current MOTU strolling past Klingons at SDCC 08.

Michael,
Off with a BANG already! Welcome back to the Blogosphere, MOTU! I am really looking forward to what you are building here. You can go in so many different ways, and that is exciting to witness.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help or contribute.

Glad to see your column up; read JO’s yesterday on his site, looking forward to Martha’s and Mike’s next. Very happy that my Saturday morning coffee with Martha will be ongoing.
A buddy and I were talking about what a historic moment it was when the networks announced Obama as the winner, comparing it to when we saw Neil on the moon. Even the fact we were watching the announcement on Comedy Central didn’t detract from the moment. I had to switch to Fox News to watch the assholes swallow their tongues as they bitterly read the outcome.
MOTU unplugged…almost a scary thought, but that’s why we keep coming back.

I was very happy with Obama’s win. I was upset that Tinklenberg lost, especially since I live in Michelle Bachman’s District. That’s just embarrassing. Trust me, Bachman made national headlines recently. It’s embarrassing. “Tinklenberg!” And I am stunned that with nearly three million votes cast in the Minnesota Senate race (actually, 2,860,218 votes cast), the difference in the vote totals between the two leaders (Senator Norm Coleman and Comedian Al Franken) is just 239 votes. In Minnesota there is an automatic recount if the two candidates are within 0.5% of each other in the vote. That’s just one two-hundredth. I think the two candidates are within 0.01%. That’s one ten-thousandth! That’s just INSANE!

To have been here in Chicago, so close to the President Elect.. let me say Mr. Davis… it was electrifying. To have been a part of this election, well, it’s the kind of thing that I want to tell my kids, should I have them someday. A great start to michael david world, for sure. I look forward to the future, of this country, of this site, and of all the Asian hot chick community. You are truly the powerful death ray weilding MOTU… I highly suggest you consider offering President Obama your services when it comes time to clean out that white house of the old white guy funk.

Sadly, I was hoping that the GOP supporters would acknowledge that Obama won with significant support from the American People, and that the GOP would follow the words of McCain in his speech that night, and come together the next day as Americans working together.
We’ve got too many mountains to climb to do it without the broad-based support of Americans of vast diversity.
But many McCain supporters are content to grumble now — comfortable in a mindset that God’s people are often walked upon and in the minority, and somehow that validates their beliefs. The anti-abortion folks especially have great fervor, and I can respect that. But we should have enough brains to see more than a single issue, with much higher priorities to take immediate attention.
I guess all we can hope for is that some people from all backgrounds can work together, and slowly give example for the others to follow.
Good to have you back Michael — with an appropriately timely state of the world for your new beginning.
(And your current font makes “cl” look too much like “d”, for us old guys with bad eyessight, at least on my computer. Just saying.)

The first time on Tuesday that I got a little proud of the USA was when I was in a voting line that wrapped around the parking lot of our local middle school – never seen anything like it around here – and this was at what is always an off-peak hour. I mentioned it to one of the volunteers inside the school and she said things had finally let up a little! The second time I got proud was listening to McCain give his concession speech – he did good in spite of his audience hitting him with BOOs. The third and best time I got proud, and even a bit teary was listening to Obama give his acceptance speech – what a wonderful thing to have such an inspiring leader, one who is not shy about big ideas. Talking about the world his daughters might live in 100 years from now – that’s thinking BIG. That’s thinking right.
BTW – I tried to register with your web site here – but I’m not getting the promised password via eMail. How long should that take?

Regarding McCain’s speech. The audience response that I recall most was when McCain was trying to take all the blame for his loss upon himself. The audience objected to that — and rightly so. That’s what I remembered most of them, although there probably were some others. (He lost more because noone could believe that he could separate himself from the entrenched Republican machine — which was proven in part from McCain’s employment of Karl Rove and his constant appeal to FEAR, as well as hugely misleading claims in ads — even outright lies. Lots of other garbage in the Republican administration — which needs to be cleaned out. For example, global warming isn’t real, unless the oil companies change their minds to believe it is. Right?)

It was definitely an interesting sight on Tuesday and going to work on Wednesday. I do respect that while a lot of people want Obama working right away on dealing with the current economic crisis and the wars, Obama said that he is not sworn in yet and only one administration at a time governs. I’m glad he’s not bulldozing in as some would like. Plus, it gives him time to try to get some things planned out better.
Regarding the sentiment of this country, prior to the election, Dennis Miller made a good point one night on “The Tonight Show”, how even though he’s not voting for Obama, if he wins, he’s not going to be spending the next 4 or 8 years hating the guy. He’ll show his support for whomever is President.
That would be a nice change of pace for once.
If the old columns were “tame”, I’m wondering if this site will now be “not safe for work”? Sounds good to me, though!
