Art and Chris: Unplugged, by Arthur Tebbel & Chris Toia – Pop Art… and Chris #43

Dear Art & Chris,
There is just nothing to do in Los Angeles during the week. I spend the evenings bored out of my mind to the point where I consider just getting in the car and driving until I run out of gas. Do you guys have any tips on stuff to do this month?

-Barthur Nottebbel, Los Angeles resident

Barthur,
It’s funny you should mention that. A lot of people stop us on the street and say, “Thank you Art & Chris for filling my days with laughter. If only there were more chances to see you.” Luckily now there are. This month our improv group, Manhandle, is finally taking it’s show out of my living room and into the small comedy theatres of Los Angeles. Tonight and on the 20th you can see us at 9pm at the Tres Stage (1523 N La Brea). Five dollar cover which includes all-you-can-drink beer. Next week we’ll be performing at Tuesday Night Thunder at 8pm at the Sierra Stage (1444 N Sierra Bonita Ave). This show is completely free.

We know this might seem like we’re just using this space to plug our gigs but you have to understand how hard it is to get promotion. We approached Michael and asked him how much an ad ran for and he told us if we had to ask we couldn’t afford it. We weren’t sure exactly how he knew that but then he eventually told us and he was certainly right. Most people don’t know this but this site gets more hits than a hundred concurrent Super Bowls especially on Tuesdays for some reason.

Long form improv comedy is an incredibly sophisticated art form. In it five to seven mediocre actors try to impress you with how quickly they can come up with half-baked comedy usually involving rape or outer space. There’s also a healthy dose of famous religious figures. If you’re very lucky the short Italian guy will try to do an impression. After doing this for twenty minutes they will expect to be showered with an inordinate amount of praise.

If you can’t make it to our shows please tell us in the comments so we can be sure to insult you personally in a future column or live show. We love our fans.

We can’t make it, because we live in the Center of the Known Universe (i.e. Manhattan). However, if you aren’t making fun of your parents in your comedy routines, I have failed to adequately indoctrinate you as a Jew.
