Sowing the Seeds: Week 1 – The Devil’s in The Details, by Tatiana – In The Mix #33

Last week I mentioned the launch of my upcoming business venture, the next few weeks I will be taking the readers through the process and sharing my joys and trials and tribulations.  Before starting any business planning, the first thing I did was speak to an investment planner. I can’t stress this enough to anyone beginning their credit or working on a business, you must monitor your credit and begin your retirement planning early. Ensuring my credit is in order has been a small detail that has impressed the bankers I’ve met with, showing that I am responsible about my own financial stability and gaining trust for my business.

The next thing I tackled was reaching out to the Small Business Association and utilizing the resources and checklists they developed. I’ve applied for my DBA (Doing Business As/ Fictitious Business Name), EIN Tax Number, and Seller’s Permit. I’ve already received a notice letting me know my business name is available! It’s exciting to know that the paper is on it’s way to be filed and my publication notice to a local newspaper will be published for the next month announcing my intent to do business. I purchased the domain name and have begun work on the website, logo, and marketing materials. Recently I secured an office location and event venue for my launch party with a wonderful company that is also in the early stages of their business development.

At the recommendation of my banker, next week I will be going to a business incubator at a University to finalize my mission statement and business model. In the meantime, I’m researching business insurance, CPA’s, and payroll. Reviewing state laws and consulting business resources, may not seem like the most exciting material but I’ve got to say I’m ecstatic. Taking a serious look at my skills and goals as been just the rejuvenation I needed to get excited about my current projects and dream of the future.
