You can't make this stuff up, so we don't!

Art & Chris’ Bogus Healthcare Journey, by Arthur Tebbel & Chris Toia – Pop Art… and Chris #68

Dear Art & Chris,

We are writing to you, our past selves, from the future with a dire warning.  The year is 2028 and everything the Republicans said would happen has happened.  The socialist takeover of the free market system, out of control healthcare costs, the death of social security and Medicare, all the crazy stuff even the stuff with no basis in logic or fact.  It all came true.  Art, you wouldn’t believe the insane taxes they’ll make you pay on your fourth house, the one in south of France.  Chris might even have to sell his smallest yacht just to keep molten gold flowing in the fountains in his house.  We guess we should explain, we make it big in Hollywood.  We’d tell you the big idea but you guys are probably stupid enough to print this letter.  Also stop drinking so damn much.  Chris, don’t marry your first wife, you’ll know the one.

Be Excellent to Each Other,

Art & Chris from the future

Hey Guys,

What you describe is certainly awful but we have to believe that you’re leaving some stuff out here.  You seem to be saying that a slight increase in taxes to provide a better health care system for all of America is some sort of gigantic negative.  When did you guys sell out so hard?

We’ve seen this movie before.  You aren’t us but evil robot versions of us.  You plan to throw us off a cliff and take our place in the battle of the bands.  Now we’ll never get that record deal.  We’re looking pictures of ourselves and they aren’t fading in and out at all.  There’s no way we would sell out that hard.  Last week you sent us a 40-page letter warning us against buying that soup we really liked.  It was delicious.  Humanity survived.  Eat it future us.

We certainly don’t think this is the perfect healthcare bill but frankly it’s immoral to be against improving this system.  It isn’t perfect but it can be the first step on a long road to functional and modern system like they have everywhere else in the developed world.  If you believe in the principles upon which this nation was founded it’s really hard to believe that the founders who were willing to go to war over life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness would have supported a system where people can get sick and go completely broke.  This is a transformative day in American politics and American history and is pretty damn near exactly what people went out to vote for in November 2008.  Nothing that can happen in the future can change the righteousness of today’s actions.

Art, if you sell that fourth house in the south of France, where will your parents live? Also, don’t they have single payer there?

Now see…. if you follow the example of our former president, you’d never have to worry about getting the cooties.
