When Will I Ever Learn?, by Michael Davis – Straight No Chaser #178

When will I ever learn?
At the opening of the Black Panel last Saturday at Comic Con International I addressed the bullshit surrounding the conservative press and their asinine rush to judgment regarding a black woman and an edited tape that resulted in the lost of her job.
Why? Because that’s what I do.
I was crystal clear that I was mocking the conservative press and even clearer in that mockery with what I said. “I would never date a black woman…who worshiped Satan.” “I think all white people are better off dead…is a horrible thing to say.” I had a few other choice tidbits but clearly YOU MDW reader get the idea.
Most people got the joke. Some did not and what has ensued is another Michael Davis hater convention on various blogs and such.
Fuck em if they can’t take a joke. To the haters, I’m in the mother fucking Wall Street Journal… BITCH.
When will I ever learn?
I closed 2 of the 3 deals I had really wanted to close over the last week. Alas, the big deal that I wanted to announce has not closed and frankly may not close but I’m feeling pretty damn good with what I have closed.
- I’m creating a Black Superhero Universe for Bill Duke as part of a big entertainment venture Mr. Duke is heading. I’m real excited about that.
- I’m writing the book on an R & B super group. This is really a dream project for me. This is an especially big deal for me because the representatives of the group came to me. Can’t tell you the groups name yet but I guarantee you WILL know who they are. Here’s a hint, they are black and they sing. I know, I know, I’m a dick…
My dinner was a huge success. That said, next year I am NOT having my dinner the same night as the Eisner awards. DAMN, I’m such a bonehead when it comes to that.
When will I ever learn?
My party was off the chain also, thanks in no small part to Tatiana. She ROCKED that shit! From conception to completion it was all her.
I barely did anything, except yell but even yelling was effortless.
Lastly, I’m in a good space. I can now get back to the business of business. I’m so blessed that my business is something I love.
I’m feeling so good I’m going to offer an olive branch to all those haters who think I’m an asshole and hate me hate what I do and hate how I do it…
Kiss my black successful ass.
When will I ever learn?

As my husband is fond of quoting, the dogs bark, but the caravan moves on.

The San Diego show is always exhausting and rejuvenating at the same time. Funny how that works. I’m glad you had a good show, and sorry I missed it.

Glad you had a good con. Interested to hear about your superhero line. Looking for artists, particularly ones who are keenly in need of work?

Elayne,
Not right now, but hopefully in a few months. I no longer predict or even THINK time-lines until everything is signed and ready to go. That said-Robin is the second person I’m calling when I need art.
