You can't make this stuff up, so we don't!

Fragmented Hard Drive. By Felix Serrano – Robot Dialog #16

I’m sitting in anticipation for my new Iphone to get here. Pages are starting to pile up and the workflow is starting to bottleneck. People in the comic industry are getting promoted left and right (and congrats to all of them!). It feels like “Twenty Eleven” will be the shifting year for comics. DC Universe online has been launched today and I never did get to play the Beta version of the game.

I’m still up in the air whether or not I will purchase it. I think Sony needs to push promotion with this one by throwing out free trials if they are expecting people to purchase a game at 50 bucks then drop a $15 a month subscription fee. We’ll see how that goes in the months to come.

Spiderman, Turn Off the Dark is in the ICU ward now. After the epic fail (fall) of one of the stunt men and the departure of one of it’s actresses, it continues to bleed money and now has some local politicians eyeballing it for safety violations stating “Workplace safety can’t be achieved by a process of trial and error”. Hehe no shit? I still stand behind the statement, this show is fucked. However, people are still interested in seeing it.

One of the bigger recent shifts in comics (was a no brainer for me), Joe Quesada has stepped down as EiC of Marvel and Axel Alonso will take over as Marvel’s new EiC. Joe Q will now be Marvel Entertainments Chief Creative Officer; this just feels like a better fit. I’m sure the combination will secure Marvels creative future for years to come.

Comics are getting too big. I’m not sure if it’s a good thing anymore. Sure business is great for myself and other creators, but it’s starting to feel like the magic is gone, there is too much polish to the whole thing. I kinda liked the idea of wishing for a superhero movie but never getting to see it. Maybe it’s because the movie in my head that I had created with the help from all of those comics was much better than anything I would see on the screen. Case in point, Green Lantern. So far from what I’ve seen, the aliens are not appealing and a little forced, the costume is over thought and overall the suspension of disbelief has been pushed to the breaking point. Maybe I’m just getting old and reminiscing about simpler times and simpler designers who don’t over think everything for the HD 3D hyper sense era.

A little goes a long way.

Back to work.

It’s nice to see that super-heroes are still taking advantage of the debilitating effects that Hostess snack cakes (the “Twinkie defense” notwithstanding) can have on super-villains.

About the Spider-Man show, I think the New Yorker did a cartoon commemorating THREE WHOLE WEEKS of no injuries on the show. As far as the record has been so far, thats pretty significant.

Did you try those Green Lantern Glo-Balls? Holy Jumpin’ Crom, do they suck.

So does a $15 a month subscription fee for a damn game.
