Just Not Funny, by Arthur Tebbel – Pop Art #118

Dear Art,
You must be just itching to go this week. You have so much to talk about. Charlie Sheen has gone crazy across basically every media outlet that doesn’t need lead-time. There are massive protests in Wisconsin that seem to have the very future of organized labor hanging in the balance. As a bonus the governor seems to be so blindingly incompetent that a local newspaper is suing him. A spokesperson for Sarah Palin even issued a statement to affirm that Palin was not afraid of Jon Stewart. You must be happier than a pig in shit. What more could you want?

Hey,
Not really. I don’t think any of this stuff is funny. Charlie Sheen’s Twitter is hilarious but if you stop to think about it for even a second it becomes apparent that we’re probably watching a man die of drug abuse live on the Internet. I mean what’s the best-case scenario of this? That he’s “just” gone completely insane? I feel pretty terrible setting out to write about that. I will not be unfollowing him on Twitter.
I believe in the American labor movement. I don’t think taking away the rights of workers is funny. Scott Walker seems to be a colossal moron what with the being tricked into thinking he was talking to a Koch brother and spilling his insidious plan and his claiming to have an outpouring of supportive e-mails only to be called on it and sued by a local paper. The astroturfing has gone particularly poorly up there as well. The bus tour has been a flop by all accounts and the counter-protests have been blown out of the water by the actual protests. I’m not laughing yet. I believe over a long enough timeline the Republicans will win and the unions will be shattered. Hilarious. Enjoy neo-feudalism.
I still refuse to talk about Sarah Palin. That said I’m really pumped that Michele Bachman is moving closer and closer to a run for President. That woman is delightful and I hope to hear much more from her. Anyone who would spend time during a major recession to allow incandescent light bulbs back in the Capitol building is someone I want to be more prominent on the national scene. You sure showed those dirty hippies Michele. Way to put your thumb in the eye of energy efficiency!

I hope Michele Bachman runs for President-the crazy shit the press will dig up on her will provide me with material for Straight No Chaser for decades.
If Charlie Sheen does not kill himself ( I hope he does not) he will become the greatest anti-hero-hero ever.
WINNING!

Charlie ain’t dying of drug abuse — that’s a symptom. He’s goddamned bugfuck, and he let a lot of people down.
I understand the letter Warners sent to his lawyer ran over 20 pages, plus footnotes, plus web links. I believe the subject header was “Exhibits A Thru ZZBL.”
As for Ms. Bachmann, she may very well be Charlie’s mother. But if she becomes president, I think MDW won’t be long for this world. Thanks to Mr. Obama, Gitmo is now ripe for condo development and Michele and her ilk will sell ’em wholesale.

If Michele Bachman becomes President-as God as my witness I will find a way to time travel.

Mike,
Why on Earth would Warner be upset about Charlie Sheen acting like they hired him to act on the show? Just replace the drugs with booze and you have the real life Charlie Harper without the other man and a half.

When Charlie Sheen first started making his rounds, it was easy to snicker but now it’s unnerving and of course the media outlets aren’t taking any accountability for enabling this destructive behavior. Sheen may be clean, but the years of abuse have clearly taken it’s toll.
What cracks me up is when Sheen was having problems with his last two ex-wives and his frequent binges, CBS and WB turned a blind eye. Yet when he started badmouthing his boss(es), that’s when they brought the hammer down.
Palin is already reported to have skipped out on a GOP debate scheduled in May. I guess she doesn’t want to share the spotlight. Gingrich would be the victor in a debate between those two.

Jeremiah,
That is a GREAT point. Sheen was reported to be hitting women and CBS said nothing.
I can’t stand Gingrich but that boy is a no joke debater. He has destroyed really smart people in debates so what he would do to Palin would be horrific to say the least.
I’d LOVE to see that.
