Hitting the Ceiling, by Arthur Tebbel – Pop Art #139

Dear Art,
So how about the debt ceiling deal reached this –

No, stop. Shut up. I don’t want to talk about it. I know people say it’s bad for the discourse if you think of your political affiliation as if it were an affiliation to a sports team but I swear being a democrat in this country is like being a die hard fan of the Washington Generals. After getting hit in the face last summer with a bucket of water during the health care debate we ducked out of the way again this time. The only problem is their bucket was filled with confetti.

The money that pays for republican campaigns comes from corporate America. I mean, that’s also true of democratic candidates but they didn’t spend the last several months pointing a gun to the head of the economy. They were bluffing. They had to be. Their only possible hope was that people would blame the democrats for any problems at the polls next year. I want to repeat that, their entire political strategy seems to be counting on the voting populace being idiots and it’s worked for every major legislative fight for three years!

The worst part was even the compromise the dems couldn’t get was a horrible idea. Cutting spending and raising taxes during a recession is a terrible idea. This is hammered home in every economics class ever. I should know, I have a degree in it. Combine that with the GDP report from last week and I don’t know why this was an issue for even a second. If you think the debt is a problem, and it isn’t, the time to deal with it is when times are good. This is just absurd. Things are going to get worse.

I just don’t know what to do about it anymore. Should I work harder and donate more money to a party that seems willing to fold on every significant issue? Vote for third party candidates? They won’t even get a chance to fold. All I’m left with is revolution or repatriation. Someone let me know when the British get their politics (or journalism) in order and I’ll be on the next plane.

Amen, my brother from another mother. The GOP is a party of people who use fear but call it facts. MY very real fear is this-the nation continues to dumb down and we all know that it’s the dumb, the uninformed, the religion nuts and the rich who are courted by the GOP.

They also go after low income far right, God and county folk.

I’m always amazed when lower income people vote republican.

That’s like me voting for slavery-which according to the GOP I should.

Why? Because some GOP party LEADERS have said the black family were better off under slavery. I’m pretty sure my family is better off today. For one thing-it’s MY house not massa’s and I can’t be sold.

It’s little things like that that make me think 2011 in America is better than the good old days when black families were not even recognized as families. Slaves could not even legally marry. I guess if they could the GOP would have passed a ‘defense of marriage act’ that excluded niggers.
