To quote the immortal bard L.L. Cool J :

“Don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years.”

Now this being my debut on Michael Davis World, I should however introduce myself. My name is Danny Donovan. Since about 1998 (at the tender age of 18) I have been involved in a smattering of different projects that range from comics to films and all manners of things in-between.

Despite my longevity in the business, I don’t have an arm length of stuff out there, I’m not a household name, I’ve strived for quality, not quantity. Over the years, I’ve worked for a host of indie publishing outfits and even have a check from Marvel and DC hanging on my wall of accomplishments, next to those front page newspaper articles…

One thing that I have enjoyed the most over the years is reaching out and helping those coming up. I have spent a majority of my time guiding others, helping them navigate the often times maddening experience of trying to break into this crazy industry.

That’s one thing that will be covered here, among other things. Expect to see political diatribes (after all I am a leftist tree-hugging hippie liberal bastard) rants on various aspects of pop culture to say the least.

But enough of where I’ve been, lets talk about where I’m going. It’s no secret that over the years I have been disenchanted with where comics have gone. Don’t get me wrong I am digging the new DC Universe New 52, and there are some cool things here and there but by and large some of the magic has gone out of things. Hence why I need to get back into the game.

Someone once accused me of not being ‘hungry’. To their credit they were right. I wasn’t. I was sad. I took some hard times, and tough breaks to heart and hung back in a support role while I tried to get myself in check. Well now I am hungry.

(both figuratively and literally, I perhaps need a sandwich.)

I have suffered some tragedies and loss this past year which have caused me to get off my ass and start doing things again. There are some projects in the works that will be pretty damn cool. I’m excited for things again for the first time in a long time.

I want to take this time to thank the Master Of The Universe, Michael Davis for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to sharing my points of view and thoughts with the folks of ComicMix and MDW every week.

One thing that Michael said to me in offering me this opportunity, is that he demands excellence. I intend to strive for that week after week. Remember, quality over quantity. Hopefully I’ll make you smile, piss you off, engage you, but more than anything else….
