I wrote about my reluctance to see The Dark Knight Rises in my last article for Comicmix. As long time readers of my rants know, I tend to bare my soul every so often when I’m not ranting about one thing or another.
Long story short-I have not seen The Dark Knight Rises because of the shootings and my own personal demons. I’m well aware that I have issues. Batman is my favorite superhero and I think the film would invoke way to many horrible images and memories from my personal life if I went and saw it at this time.
Like I said-issues. I’m the last motherfucker to criticize someone’s issues. If you don’t drink water because once as a kid you were attacked by a babbling brook, as stupid as I think that may be you won’t hear it from me.
So-I was a bit surprised when a couple of people wrote negative comments about my piece.
No-I’m not going to rip those people new assholes as I’m sure some of you were waiting on.
Nope-this article is to say ‘thank you’ for all those people who wrote and lent me their love and support.
I don’t do that enough. I’m the first to admit I’m a bit hard to take. Most of the people who wrote comments expressing concern for me I have not even met and they only know me just from my work or my writings.
Damn-that’s cool. Imagine people you have not even met taking the time to give you words of encouragement when you are fighting personal demons that may even seen strange to them.
So-to all those who took the time to show me some love, I thank you from the very bottom of my heart.
When-I can (and I will) see The Dark Knight I’m sure your words will be foremost on my mind.
Thanks again.

I think it is very brave to put yourself in a position where you let yourself be open and make yourself vulnerable in a public forum by expressing what is on your mind. Sometimes readers have to understand that what you are expressing won’t always make sense to them and that the negative comments aren’t what is needed….that what is needed is the compassion to allow the writer to be human. Like you said above, you (we) may not always understand, but as a human being we all have issues and sometimes we just have to offer support the best we can (even if we feel it is out in left field)
My hat is off to you Mr. Davis, you have my respect and admiration. Keep doing good.

The critical idiots on Comicmix weren’t worth the time you took to engage them over there. You devoting a post on your own site to them would have been criminal. That being said, you’re classier than I. I’d used the article to rake them over the coals; waste of time, or not.

Doug,
I’m trying my best to be a kinder, genteler, Master The Universe. It’s hard but I’m trying.

Mark,
Thank you so much for your kind words I appreciate that in a non-Brokeback way. Not that there is anything wrong with the Brokeback way I’m just into girls … there was that one time in college but I was really drunk and he was really cute… until I sobered up then that cute thing not so much… and he never called…

Re-read your post. That’s a hell of a title for a graphic novel: The Last Motherfucker.
We should do this. Not at all certain how we’d distribute it. My guess is that Amazon and Apple would pass.
