Rand Paul spoke at Howard University yesterday. He spent a lot of time talking about the rich history between Blacks and the GOP.

The truth is there is a rich history, and no, there is no joke coming.

The GOP was founded as an anti-slavery party, and it was a Republican President that freed the slaves — those events are among many, and I mean many, very positive things for and about African Americans behind which the GOP was the driving force.

So there is a rich history that exists.

The problem is that history IS history.

I’ve said it a million times: yes, the GOP is the party of Lincoln, but that party is over and has been for about 60 years since the GOP shifted into its “Southern Strategy.”

I won’t insult my readers by detailing what the Southern Strategy is because I’m damn sure you all know. Rand Paul, in his speech to the students of Howard, kept asking the audience if they knew certain things, and they did.

At one point Rand couldn’t remember the name of a Black Republican he wanted to talk about, but the students in the room did and as one they told him.

Paul talked to the students at one of the nation’s top schools (not just BLACK schools either) like they were five. Who the fuck shows up at ANY UNIVERSITY and assumes that the audience is ignorant?

Rand Paul does.

This “outreach to the African American voter” is never going to work if the GOP just thinks they can ignore what is happening in the party NOW and has been for six decades.

Reminding someone how you saved their life yesterday is not going to give you any brownie points if they try to kill you TODAY.

Oh and Republicans, if you want to send someone to a prestigious Black University to talk about diversity in your party, you may first want to get some diversity. Secondly, you may want to send someone to talk to students who won’t get schooled like a little bitch.
