Feel the Heat, by Martha Thomases – Brilliant Disguise | @MDWorld

Twice this week it has been so hot and humid in the morning that I have been forced — forced — to put ice in my coffee. Along with Memorial Day on Monday, this is a sure sign of summer.
Who can think in this heat? Here are some random thoughts on the season, because my entire brain is random this week.
• Just in time to celebrate summer, the World Cancer Research Fund suggests that processed meat products — including hot dogs and pre-made hamburgers — are too dangerous to eat. So have fun at that barbecue in your back yard this weekend.
Also, this makes an attempt to reward Cleveland’s hero, Charles Ramsey, seem more like a punishment than a gesture of gratitude.
• Some of you who may be excited by the news that marijuana may help you lose weight and control diabetes. Well, if you live in a state without legal pot, you better hope for decriminalization soon, because you’re paying a stupidly high premium.
This is separate from the fact that keeping drugs illegal funds criminals, and no, I’m not talking about your friendly neighborhood grower. We could eliminate almost all gang-related crime if we ended this stupid prohibition on pot and other drugs. In the process, we could defund the Taliban. Unfortunately, as with any enterprise that involves tons of profit, the powers-that-be have little incentive to change things.
Maybe legalizing medical marijuana could be the next step after Obamacare. And then my Medicare could cover it.
• That lovable scamp, Joe Biden, recently discussed how fabulous it is that America has her Jews, much as it is fabulous that Daenerys Targaryen has her dragons. “I’m sure this won’t make the Christian Right in the least bit paranoid, nor will it offend the anti-Israeli left”, I say sarcastically.
• Summer heat often inspires additions to one’s wardrobe. Unfortunately for most of America, the clothes we can afford can require inhumane working conditions for those producing the shorts and t-shirts we love. Thank you, Interwebs, for showing me alternatives to the crap at the mall. If this is to your taste, you may be reassured to know that it is produced by people paid fairly and treated respectfully.
Martha Thomases, Media Goddess, can also recommend this site with no qualms whatsoever. It takes her back to her hippie youth.

Of course, today it’s 20 degrees below normal.
The World Cancer Research Fund is another dangerous, self-contradictory nut group, aka food fascists. Skinny little runts with complexions like extras from The Walking Dead that smell just as bad as they look. If they’re living advertisements for healthy living, I’d rather die happy in the cancer ward.
Legal pot doesn’t work as good as the illegal stuff. Just as a boosted steak tastes a lot better than ones you buy. It’s amusing to note that today illegal pot funds the Taliban. It was just a generation ago when the Rabid Right was saying illegal pot funds communist insurrectionists and human traffickers. And before that, we were told weed sales supports the Mafia’s gamboling and prostitution… as if the mob needed weed to make up for their “loss-leaders” like gamboling and prostitution. The Mafia is an organization that has woefully inept at selling marijuana since the 1960s — and you thought only GW Bush could fail at that. The overwhelming percentage of the weed sold in this nation is domestically produced. Last season, there was a documentary on FX all about this called “Justified.”
So always remember, BUY AMERICAN! (from the guy who NEVER bought a foreign car in his life)
I wonder what would happen to all those underpaid overworked foreign laborers if we all of a sudden stopped sending our piece work out to them. Sure, our prices would go up but so would our wages as unemployment would plummet — and, therefore, inflation would skyrocket. But we’d still be better off here in the States, while all those now-unemployed folks in lands afar would starve to death. This is a very complicated issue, most certainly not black-and-white, and involves the people who actually run those foreign nations and how they get their kickbacks. VERY complicated.

If I wasn’t clear, when I said that illegal drugs fund the Taliban, I was talking about opium, not pot. Same stupid laws.

Oh and by the way, I LOVE Daenerys Targaryen. “Where are my dragons?”
The line of year from a rock ’em, sock ’em feminist.
