The above cartoon by New York Daily News editorial cartoonist Tom Stiglich seems to have annoyed Washington DC football fans who believe that conflating the Washington Redskins logo with images of the Nazis and Confederacy is offensive.

Asked for a comment, Dallas Niggers general manager Rastus Redundant said he thinks comparing his team to the Nazi party, the Confederate States of America, and the Washington Redskins is offensive. Cleveland Kikes owner Jewy Lewis echoed Redundant’s comments, taking them one step further. He’s offended his team is being compared with the Nazi party, the Confederate States of America, the Washington Redskins, and the Dallas Niggers.

Of course, there’s at least two sides to every issue (exemption: CNN News, which has a two-side limit). Tea Party Morons coach Rush Norquist said he would be proud to be lumped in with the Nazi party, the Confederate States of America, the Washington Redskins, the Dallas Niggers, and the Cleveland Kikes if only he had a stadium to play in. Since most stadia are financed with repulsive public funding, Coach Norquist is simply shit out of luck.

There’s politically correct, and there’s bad manners, and there’s a great deal of overlap between the two. Offense depends largely on who’s ox is being gored. Most of the original residents of the Washington DC area were either chased out of the area or slaughtered, so I guess Washington’s non-Indian population thinks referring to a bunch of brain-addled lunkheads by a racially derogatory name is swell.

Me? I find the term “Redskins” in reference to a football team is truly stupid. I couldn’t care less if it’s politically incorrect; it’s bad manners.

Then again, there’s the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and their mascot, a typical cartoonish leprechaun. I don’t follow football, but whenever I see teevee footage of a gaggle of 320 pounds of pure muscle black leprechauns fighting for South Bend, Indiana – the state that long had been the headquarters of the Ku Klux Klan – I giggle a lot.

Sports is silly, and the names of sundry teams are a hoot. We go to Bridgeport Sound Tigers hockey games, and I have yet to figure out what a “Sound Tiger” is in real life. But it doesn’t seem to upset the greater tiger community.

And you do not want to upset the greater tiger community.
