I like the added dimension of color.

Thanks for noticing. MDW’s week off gave me a little more time to play around with this week’s strip, and experiment with color.

the color is all kinds of fresh!
this is my favorite part of the mike davis world, bravo to mccarthy!
i love how this guy is constantly drooling, it would be gross to be his friend. i mean, do you tell a guy he is drooling when he can’t help it?

Kevin –
The color is great! I like the subdued tones. Very intruguing cliffhanger you’ve left us with! Color again next week or back to black and white?

Your black and white strips are strong and full of great negative space and composition. The color only accents the strips strength.
I agree with everyone, I’m looking forward to more color!

I appreciate your kind words, Banzai. I never would have thought adding some simple color would make as much of an impression as it seems to have made.
And as far as the drooling, this tumescent creature was just born, and is probably still mutating . . . give it time to acquire some social grace. But don’t count on it. Most of my characters are always either sweating or slobbering.

Dan,
Being familiar with some of the Whizzard’s earlier adventures, you may be able to guess at who could be speaking off-panel at the end of this strip.
And since I am making this up as I go along, your guess would be as good as mine.

You can tell, Tatiana, that this strip was originally intended to be B&W like all the others have been, and that the color was added as an afterthought, but I’m happy with the way the heavy blacks and light colors work with each other.
I don’t think it would have worked as well if the strip was “drawn for color,” if you get my meaning. Either way, I’m enjoying the freedom MDW allows me to experiment.
