The Best Top Ten Songs of All Time, by Q. Reyes – Artistic Warfare #37

There are a millions of songs that people sing, re-sing, re-mix, re-do, re-everything; yet, there are ten songs that can’t be disputed as being the best songs ever, in my opinion, of course.
I’m a child of the ninety’s hip-hop movement, but I’m unable to deny what was good before then or is good now.
#10 – Cool & The Gang “Get down on it”

Cool & The Gang were the cool boys of the 1980’s. Their music was soulful, yet sounded fresh and new. It appealed to a younger demographic, while still being bearable by the older folks. It was perfection for its time.
#9 – Michael Jackson “Beat it”

I’m not jumping on the Michael Jackson bandwagon now that he’s no longer with us, I’m simply stating that this song changed the way we listened and looked at music, and it brought out one of the first world-wide fashion trends ever. RIP Michael.
#8 – Big Punisher feat. Joe “Still not a player”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOEOn3fng9U
I remember the first time I heard this song I was like “Oh, man, that’s my Shit!” Big Pun was one of the baddest MC’s – and he was Puerto Rican. Too bad the best leaves us so quickly. RIP Big Pun
#7 – Crystal Waters – “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)”

If you listened to this song when it first came out, then you still listen to it once in a while. This was the original essence of what the “house music” trend was for a while during the late eighties, and nineties.
#6 – Alicia Keys “Fallin”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=712cMG7DYY0
I remember the first time I heard this song. Alicia was still unknown and I watched her perform this song on Soul Train. I became an instant fan. Right now Alicia can just hum over the sound of a washer machine for three minutes and I’d buy that song.
#5 – R. Kelly “Bump N’Grind”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvimAwIuq-Q
Say what you want to say about R. Kelly. Yeah, he allegedly likes young girls – but so did I when I was fifteen – around the same time when his 12-Play album dropped. R. Kelly helped me get further with girls than if I was trying to do things by myself. Thanks, R. Kelly.
#4 – R. Kelly “Your Body’s Callin”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCaQ80c_Nis
This is the second R. Kelly song on my list. The truth of the matter is that I could easily put the entire 12-Play album on this list. No lie, that album was a teenager’s dream.
#3 – Groove Theory “Tell Me”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmTRDVd1NA0
Groove Theory was like a fluke. For some reason I can’t get tired of listening to this song. That’s why it had to be on my list. It was either this song or The Pharsyde “Passing me by”.
#2 – Digable Planets – “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZY0c2ZAeMK4
When Digable Planets came out, it was around the same time that I was searching for some sort of identity. I think until this day, I still dress and act like a Digable Planet. Their album was different, new, fresh and still relevant.
#1 – Biggie Smalls “Suicidal Thoughts”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GygEAcFFMVs
This is such a hardcore song, and it had to be number one on my list. When I first listened to this song, I knew that this man was different than anyone who had an album out. This song made me see a different side of rap – a really real side. RIP BIG.
I know you probably went through this list and found your top ten missing, which is no coincidence. This is my list bitch. Get your own. I’m out, and fuck ‘yo couch!

Mi hermano, I’m afraid that there’s no ‘allegedness’ about the pedophile known as R. Kelly. And there’s a universe of difference between a 15 yr old liking another teen, and a freaky, nasty, sob doing the same.
And I can co-sign on three of your ten. As far as the rest…as the late great Bernie Mac would say…”You must be Kwwaazy”
😛
