Rock’n’Roll High School, by Martha Thomases – Brilliant Disguise

September 12, 2009 Martha Thomases 8 Comments

In the news cycle before the President’s speech to schoolchildren on Wednesday, NBC News showed short clips of parents discussing whether or not they would let their children see the speech.

(And, by the way, what does it mean that our schoolchildren – or at least those at the Virginia high school – are more polite than our Congress?  Do we need a detention room in the Capitol?)

One clip, which I saw at least three times (why, yes, I do watch too much television, thanks for asking) showed a mother, with a young child, who said she didn’t want her kid to see the speech because “Obama supports things I don’t believe, like gay marriage and abortion.”  This made me think three things:

1) Someone at the White House better cancel the dildo demonstration planned for the teaching materials.

2) Do gay people have that many abortions? I’d guess they actually get the fewest.

3) Could I have skipped school just by insisting something went against my parents’ belief?  Because I could totally fake my mom’s signature on a letter like this one below.

Dear Principal:

My daughter, Martha Louise Thomases, must be excused from any classes that violate our core values.  We do not want her exposed to any of the following ideas:

• Spelling.  English spelling follows very few phonetic rules consistently.  After learning how to spell “tough” and “though,” our child might think very few other rules should be followed consistently.

• Geography.   If Siam can be Thailand, she might think right can be wrong.  Until countries figure out what their names are and where their boundaries are drawn, we’d prefer that our daughter not study them.

• History.  We do not endorse the policies of the Filmore administration, nor do we want to have discussions about it with our child.  Please don’t ask; it’s still too painful to talk about.

• Physical Education.  Learning how to play on a team is very similar to learning how to cooperate.  Learning to cooperate is very similar to learning how to appreciate the skills and talents of others.  Socialism!

• Reading.  Many novels invite the reader to consider the viewpoints of many different characters.  This leads to empathy.  If our daughter learned empathy, she would never be able to serve on the Supreme Court.

• Math.  I forbid you to introduce my child to the Islamo-fascist mind-control of Arabic numerals.  If Roman numerals were good enough for the Holy Roman Empire, they’re good enough for us.

Media Goddess Martha Thomases was not only forced to go to class when she was in school, but she also had to go to chapel five times a week.

And just think, if the racist morons who kept their children from watching Obama followed your line of reasoning, they’d raise unemployable cretins who’d spend most of their time on the public dole, thereby helping turn their fine, White, Christian nation into a socialist state…or worse!

    Kudos, Martha!

GOP knows big lies work, the bigger the better. They’ve got the money to put them on television and imbeciles to shout them at every meeting. It’s called giving the country to the rich. It’s been tried before. And the foot-shmucks think the plutocrats have their best interests at heart.

See you in the emergency room. Bring something to read.

It’s not just the Big Lie, John. We’ve known that works since the 30s. It’s quantity as well. All they have to do is convince you a LITTLE bit that a FEW of these things MIGHT be true, and they’ve got you.

Obama’s a weenie. He should have flipped Wilson off. Or, as Craig Ferguson said, if he had some experience in stand-up, he would have replied “Hey, do I go to your home state and knock the wiener out of the governor’s mistress?”

Screw the Right. Let’s bring the Town Hall to them.

    Preach, Brother Mike!

Since the Gingrich revolution all GOP communiques are as reliable as the Comintern’s. They’ve got they’re own dictionary, their own bible, their own borders, their own prisons.

We’re chumps the rest of us, and are acting the part all the way, as you wisely point out. What’s next? A fucking shoe?

This phony Proud-Church-Under-The-Dome works against us, too. If we believed in it our trained assassins would have dragged the guy out and he would be facing three to five. It’s fake, just like the house rules. The guys in power vote when they want, for whatever they want, just ask the Clinton judicial appointees, the guys that would have been putting the constitution brakes on Worstpresidentever but were POW-MIA.

So, you’re right. They should introduce it, move it and we’ll just have to live with it. Maybe if we pretend it’s a war we can get some votes.

And if you want to read about the international military police action in the Kyber, try the BBC, but they’re rubbish on the Levant.

This is hilarious, Martha. You forgot the biggest offending course, “Social Studies.” I don’t want my daughters learning how to be Socialists during school hours!

I’m so embarrassed that I’m represented by Rep. Michelle Bachman and Gov. Tim Pawlenty. Bachmann is consistently a cracked wing nut. But Pawlenty is generally a voice for moderation. This time, Pawlenty actually had the temerity to call Obama’s address to school children, “uninvited” and said that it might be “disruptive” to classes. He questioned it’s content and motives.

Bachman? Damn, I really feel sorry for you, Russ. That chick’s crazy. Not just right wing nut crazy, but “oh my god why did I go out with her” crazy. And I think most of us know how bad THAT is.

    OMG!
Why oh why did I go out with Michelle? She promised so much and delivered nothing…
And Martha, why did you have to bring up Filmore? Best legacy there was a couple of bi-coastal musical venues…Oh wait, that wasn’t Millard anyway…
Then again, I did manage to solve that sticky school thing and get recused from those problematic early grades until I met you…the rest, as they say, is history…}’;>)
