There is something about the dead of night that I absolutely love. For a few hours the world seems to stop and time seems to slow down. The phone does not ring, my iPhones don’t alert me to messages, and I can knock off items on my to-do list with little distraction.

I love the flexibility, spontaneity, and journey that my projects take me on. Having the ability to work when I want, through the day, night, and wee hours of the morning. It’s no surprise to the readers that I am a workaholic. My day began at the ever so fine hour of 2am.

Yes, you read that right. I said my day began at 2am.

What amazes me most about the middle of the night is seeing who else is up and out. Unlike cities like New York or Las Vegas, Los Angeles is not really known for their night life. As I was driving downtown to the floral mart, the fog was intense. It felt like I was in a scary horror movie.

While sitting at the spotlight, my sister and I spotted a man who literally appeared through the shadows. His torso was slouched forward with his left leg dragging behind. As he walked towards the corner, his body moved in an eerie fashion- lowering his head and raising his arms. My sister and I were convinced he was a zombie. Rick James said it best, “Cocaine is a hell of a drug!”

I really wonder what his story is. What lead him to the streets at that hour? What was with his limp? Where was he going? I truly hope my imagination got the best of me. Do you ever stop to think of the back stories of the strangers in your life?
