Of Course You Know This Means World War, by Arthur Tebbel – Pop Art #97

Dear Art,
I think I might have a huge problem. I’m running for congress in Ohio’s 9th district. This is a district that the Republicans have not held in almost 20 years. I had hoped to change that but there was a disturbing development this week. The Atlantic broke a story about my long-term involvement with a group called Wiking. This is a group that dresses in the uniforms of the Nazi SS group of the same name. We celebrate the individuals in the unit while not endorsing the Nazi government. Is this a big deal? Will this affect my chances in the election?

Rich,
I would say you have dug the trench that your candidacy will be lined up in front of and shot. If those photos of you tell you they want to take your candidacy for a shower I would be really suspicious. I would be worried that the Swiss will take advantage of your candidacy’s predicament and steal an awful lot of your money in the confusion. I am out of Holocaust jokes. You can probably go to the next web site you were going to visit.
I really don’t understand how you can ever expect to get a vote from any but the most self-hating Jewish voters. The Wikings, like most divisions of the SS, were charged with exterminating Jews. This particular group was killing Jews as late as March and April of 1945. I think a group of individuals worth celebrating would have stopped slaughtering innocent people once the writing was on the wall for the Nazis.
This is a big deal for more than just the Holocaust angle. You are dressing up as a member of an army that fought against the United States. Chances are there are people in your district who fought against the Nazis; Certainly relatives of those people. They might be a little pissed you see those people worthy of emulation and veneration. The Wikings website defends the battalion saying that they primarily were used to fight the soviets (re: communists). I think even among your Tea Party brethren you might have trouble with that. I can only tell by the signs but as much as they hate socialism they seem to hate our Nazi president even more. That must be a hard line to goosestep along.
This probably won’t affect your chances at being elected. Your district has been blue a long time and you weren’t looking like the favorite before this. Your supporters won’t care; they seem to love blaming the liberal media for reporting things candidates have said and done. You haven’t been a member for a number of years and you can probably use that to duck out of the way. You seem to be a vile dude with an interest in emulating some of history’s greatest monsters but I don’t think this is the moment you’ll point to when you have no job come January. Maybe Stormfront.org will need a new moderator.

I believe the saying goes- if it looks like a nazi, and talks like a nazi… then we have to at least consider the possibility that we’re dealing with a member of the Republican Party.
