Moving Day … By Whitney Farmer – Un Pop Culture

August 31, 2011 Whitney Farmer 6 Comments

Whitney runs a rock music venue on the beach in L.A.. She has an M.B.A, and maybe needs to simplify her life.

In the midst of a move, so will reach out again next week with thoughts I’ve been mulling over. Lots of changes: We lost another musician last weekend. I drove by his wreck at 4 a.m. when I was leaving the club.  But two loved voices from my past have suddenly come back into my life: One, a favorite cousin who rode out the hurricane, and the other my best friend from my former life. I used to cry in my dreams from missing her so much.

To all, may the richness of your life barely fit into boxes, may the walkthrough go well, and make sure to leave out one good pair of shows when you pack.

And lipstick.

Meant to say “…good pair of shoes…” not shows. One day, I’ll outgrow typos.

The older you get, the more people from your past will show up.

    Whitney,

Does this mean that you’ve left the Fatherland? I mean: “Orange County”.

    Whitney,

The difference between moving when you choose to and moving when you have to, is like the difference between stepping of a ship on a pier and stepping off a ship into a life boat.
Enjoy your new place. You will lose something. I do every time I move. Let’s hope it’s just a blender and not a treasured book or packet of photos.

The older you get, the more people from your past will show up.

Au contraire – based on my experience over the last ten years or so, the older you get, the more people from your past leave the party permanently.
