I have a few sayings that I use over and over again. Most are mine except the above sentence. That belongs to my good friend E. Van Lowe.

If you have spent any real time with me I’m sure you have heard at least some of my best beloved sayings:

Let me be clear.

Each one, teach one.

You can’t regulate morality

Is you stupid?

Do I look like I give a fuck?

I could give a fuck!

Fuck you and your family.

Yeah, I know, I know, I should write a book called Motu’s Words To Live By.

I would love to take credit for the gem that is, A deal takes the time that it takes, but alas I cannot. That’s ALL E.

E is what I call E. Van Lowe. Yes, I know what his first name is. No, I’m not telling you. Why?

Because, I can’t spell it.

Really.

E. Van Lowe is the name he goes by professionally so it’s all-good. E is a hotshot TV producer and writer. He’s a part of a very rare breed in Hollywood; he’s a black show runner. That literally means he RUNS the show.

There are not that many Black show runners in television and E is not just a Black show runner he’s a GREAT show runner, period. He is simply badass.

How badass is E? He’s been nominated for an Emmy AND an Oscar.

THAT badass.

E taught me just about everything I know about the television business. He’s also taught me life lessons that I did not think I needed but I did. It’s because of his insight and many other things that make me so proud he’s my friend.

The director Bill Duke introduced me to E. This is when Bill liked me. He’s a bit pissed at me these days…long story…no; I’m not going to tell you.

Why?

Because I like you dear MDW reader and I don’t want to have to kill you.

Don’t worry all my good friends get pissed at me at some time or another. Most get over it.

Most.

Anywho, E is not just a great TV producer, writer and show runner. He’s also one of the best young adult novelists working today. His latest book is called Boyfriend From Hell and no it’s NOT about me. I read the book in one sitting and as much as I LOVE to read that’s rare even for me.

The only other book I’ve read in one sitting is The Kama Sutra.

Well technically I wasn’t sitting but you get the idea. Also while reading Boyfriend From Hell I did not, I repeat did NOT feel the need to add chapters like I did with The Kama Sutra.

E’s also the author of the mega selling Never Slow Dance With A Zombie.

Both books are well worth the price of admission. In the over 20 years I’ve been writing an opinion column (starting way back in Comics Buyer’s Guide in the early 90’s) I’ve never, ever plugged a book…that wasn’t mine.

What?
