Take Your Inspiration, by Tatiana EL-Khouri – In The Mix #56 | @MDWorld

Inspiration can come from anywhere and I mean anywhere. It can come from your morning walk, a conversation with a co-worker, the innocent insight of a child, the ignorant commentary of an ill-formed person, to just about any instance in your day.

That is the easy part!

What you do with that epiphany, morsel of knowledge or fire in your belly is a whole different beast! As an artist my sources of inspiration are endless- The natural color palette of a flower garden, the rust of a decaying door, the laughter and sheer happiness from a child’s first visit to Disneyland or even a meme on the Internet.

The last few months, I have been reflecting on my business growth and making time to paint.

What to paint?

When to paint?

Where to paint?

Do people remember I paint?

Finding the time to do art amidst projects is a tried and true dilemma for artists, writer, filmmakers and anyone with a passion since the dawn of time. While exploring through my collections of favorite quotes, I stumbled on the Jack London quote, “You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.”

It hit me just then. None of those questions or feelings of doubt matter. You can collect all the inspirations in the world, have all the moments of “What if’s,” but none of it matters with out action. Nothing!

So here it is, a painting by yours truly. I’m kicking doubt in the face and slamming it with a club. Instead of having a collection of quotes that sit in a word document, I’m taking all those bits of inspiration and making paintings.

What ideas are you sitting on? Are you holding back?

I’ve always interpreted this quote as “. . . you have to go after it with an association dedicated to a particular interest or activity.” Like Scooby’s Mystery, Inc. gang. Or Clue Club.

Always have had a HUGE crush on Jack London for all the right reasons.

He was right. And you are right. There is violence in creativity. Ask any momma who has given birth.

If I could paint like you, I would have no bare walls anywhere!
