Great, I Could Give a Fuck, by Michael Davis – Straight No Chaser #275 | @MDWorld

Sorry about last week.
I was in the middle of Comic Con and simply forgot my article.
I had a great Comic Con, thanks for asking. The Black Panel was great. My party was great. My dinner was great. My meetings were great.
Like I said, my Comic Con was…great.
After the Black Panel there are always critiques from news outlets. This year we were reviewed by the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Entertainment weekly to name a few.
How cool is that? Cool? No, that’s great!
Then there are the reviews in the form of comments on the Internet.
Some, great. Some, not so great.
I wonder if some of the haters of me and/or the Black Panel are just fucking idiots.
Yes–I mean that. I’m not bitching because some people simply don’t like what I do-Hell for as long as I can remember people have either loved me or hated me. I used to really care about what those people thought. Now?
I could give a fuck.
Back to the idiots…
At the beginning of every single Black Panel, in every interview I’d ever given on the Black Panel, on the Black Panel website, and in numerous articles I’ve written over the last decade or more, ONE thing is made crystal clear: the Black Panel is for people who are doing important work within the Black entertainment or education space.
It’s the Black Panel, not the Black People Panel. So-you don’t have to be Black to be on the Black Panel. If you’re doing good work and Black people are affected or represented you can be a fucking Martian and be on the Black Panel.
I’ve had plenty of non-Black people on the panel.
I’ve said or written maybe a zillion times that the Black Panel is open to power playa’s from any race.
So, as I said, I wonder if some of the haters of me and/or the Black Panel are just fucking idiots because every year some asshole will post reams of comments asking why there are white people on The Black Panel.
White idiots do it, Black idiots do it and it simply boggles my mind.
This is the sort of thing that scares me about FOX News. There are millions of people who don’t read, or worse, don’t understand what they read, or worse still, don’t believe anything that differs from what they have been told regardless of the facts.
Hence global warming is a myth and Obama is a Muslim born in Africa who wants to kill Grandma.
Well–idiots will be idiots I can’t change that.
Well, I win because my Comic Con was great. As for the haters and idiots, I could give a fuck. Shit, next year I’m considering putting only white people on the Black Panel.
That will most surely make some idiot’s head explode.

It was a great panel, most definitely. Truly enjoyed it and found myself educated. Can’t wait to see what you cook up next year!!

@Steve Atkins: That’s Jamie Kennedy, not Seth Green.
@MOTU: Sounds like a grand event. Good show, sir!

Reviews, gotta luv em… question: If you have white people on the black panel, will you get a white host too? Just wondering. :-/ Oh, I got it…, YOU be on the panel, and have a white person host…. Or just let the whole panel & the host be white and YOU sit in the audience…. (wait, that wont be any fun).. unless you yell FROM the audience (with your pistol) telling the host, how to run the black panel. Either way, it will be great, because you will be there to cuss folks out (you know that’s why people come, right?) LOL.

Stacey,
You do realize you are the reason I don’t have any more Black women on the panel, don’t you? When you stood up and yelled, -“Any man that wants to date me better have a J.O.B!”-was bad enough but what made matters worst was that NO ONE asked you a question.
What?

Dave,
I guess I’m glad you are my friend. I can’t be sure because I know about 51 guys and 1 really ugly girl named ‘Dave.’
So-help a brother out with a last name. If it’s not Romney I think we will be cool.

Attended my first Comic-Con (a virgin among virgins)to check out The Black Panel and it was a blast. Not sure why folks complain about whites on the panel, since the two that were on were very relevant, especially the announcement by Ms. Geppi of her Milestones in African-American Comics is a must-see (it’s in Baltimore). Jaime was hilarious and well-received by the thousands of folks in the audience. Now that I know that MOTU carries a piece, I’ll hurl my contrarian commentary at him from a distance. Good job, can’t wait ’til next year. (party was excellent, too!)

SO, if white people aren’t supposed to be on the Black Panel, when do we start hearing the howls of protest over Wendy Pini (a notoriously straight woman) hosting the panel about gays in comics?
Folks, he’s the Master of the Universe, not just the Master of the Black Universe. You must bow in acknowledgment, no matter what you look like…

Jonathan,
I try to attend the ‘Gays in comics’ panel whenever I can. The first time I went a few people thought I was coming out. WTF? Should only Gay people attend that panel? Black people the Black Panel?
I’m with you dude, some folk should buy a clue.

Women at the Women in Comics Panel.
Gays at the Gays in Comics Panel.
Blacks at the Black Panel.
You have to keep everyone in their proper place. Without rigid rules, all would be anarchy! Miscegenation! There would be strollers at panels that contain single adults!
You have to have these boxes, MOTU. Without these stereotypes, people might just have to…
THINK!
And that shit is hard…

@steve: no problem. It’s hard to pick up on tone of voice in print.

@Steve: You have my best thoughts and most positive energy. I’ve learned that, if someone drives you crazy and you still reach out to that person, it is most likely proof of love.

Steve Atkins via MOTU –
I look forward to meeting you some day, dear. I think that I would like to call you my friend, and hopefully be one to you.
Your mom has got to be proud of the man that you grew up to be.
